Appreciating Indoor Architecture

I generally define my photography as "anything but humans". Yes, for the most part I photograph landscapes and flowers - anything nature. But I also do enjoy capturing architecture and other human elements...just without the humans! I particularly enjoy architecture of older structures. Structures that have character, age, and bumps and bruises. Rough angles, interesting light, and maybe a little bit of patina. A trip to Savannah and Tybee Island provided some older architecture for me to enjoy - including a lighthouse and Fort Pulaski. I love envisioning, and then turning these images into black and white. I feel that it highlights all of of the details that show the age and character of the building.

With each of these images, I was able to really focus on elements I would have otherwise overlooked - the shadows created by the arches, the sheen on the old door handle, the depth of the hallway leading to the window of the lighthouse. Reviewing these images is a reminder to me to take time to appreciate these and many other manmade structures during my travels.
